Music Soothes the Soul

Its true: music soothes the soul!  Whether you are a musician, or just a grateful listener, your day can be improved by simply listening to your favorite musics.  In fact, as a singer, I gain immense satisfaction just by losing myself in a song.

If you find the day heavy, lighten up with some music.  Pick your favorite artist or genre, and then crank it up!  The endorphins will start flowing and within a few minutes, you’ll find yourself humming along, probably even smiling!

The wonder of music has been tracked for hundreds of years.  You don’t need a scientist to tell you that music can lead to a better mood.

Even reputable sources like Psychology Today agree that music soothes the soul.  In a post last year:

“Music is often overlooked as a therapeutic intervention: singing, listening, and creating music of any kind will provide an immediate biological and psychological benefit for everyone. In fact, music can be a salvation and antidote to most psychological challenges: that’s why people sing in the shower and while driving the car, or simply listen to music that’s inspiring and distracting from emotional upset.”

Think about how your favorite tune makes you want to get up and dance.  Haven’t you ever sang in the shower, in the car?  Now you know the results of the positive impacts of music!  Try frowning and singing at the same time.  It doesn’t work!

People from teenagers to senior citizens have experienced the liberating effects of a great tune to lift them up when down.  You can literally be your own DJ in selecting music to get you in a better mood.  Angry?  Put on some music like Alanis Morrisette.  Sad?  You can pick from a broad range of artists!  Even Bob Seger crooned about the “Old Times of Rock and Roll,” that soothed his soul:

Sure, I know.  Seger is a bit astray from my genre of music.  Personally, I like to reconnect with nature, in a contemplative tune.  Something that makes me think.  Words are the least important aspect.  Just give me a soulful tune, and I can marvel at the wonder of music in no time.

How do you enjoy the positive impacts of music?  What do you find soothes your soul?

Music can reflect your mood or change it. It can calm you, excite you, refresh your soul. And music can bring back sweet memories of the past. It all depends on the tune….
