Music and memory are closely intertwined. You can take a musical journey just by putting in a selected CD or pressing play on an MP3 file. I like to think of it as the one, true way that humans can engage in time travel!
Take a musical journey
Like taste and smell, sound – particularly music – can help you access memories. One song may bring back recollections of a weekend at the beach. Another tune may remind you of your teenage years… maybe even your first true love? While the lyrics of some pop hits may speak directly to emotions you felt at the time, its the underlying beat, tempo and melody that likely will stay with you months and years later.
Just as music soothes the soul, it also enriches it, creating links between music and memory, that we can later access. Quite simply, it is a human expression. One that allows us to connect with other beings on a uniquely expressive level.
Consider the tracks on the following videos. Do they help you access memories? Can you take a musical journey on their chords and rhythm?

Estou encantada com eles. Além de você escrever muito bem e me provocar sensações muito profundas, concordo com a maioria das coisas que disse. A música muda e transforma. Me anima, me acalma, me mata e me renasce todo dia. Já fiquei doente após ouvir certas músicas, mudei completamente minha personalidade ao ouvir outras.
Não quis comentar no seu blog porque eu quis falar dos três posts ao mesmo tempo. Música faz viajar, faz levitar, me faz ser outra pessoa. Ou me apresentar de outro jeito. É fantástico.
Certo, não sou nenhuma musicista. Não tenho vocação para tocar, e sim para ouvir, para reparar em cada detalhe. Como se eu estivesse olhando para um quadro (imagino você pintando! Você pinta, desenha, ou algo do gênero?).
Descobri q não gosto de um tipo específico de música, para desespero dos rotuladores. Eu gosto de música, música que me faça parar, faça andar, viajar, blá blá blá.
Sobre sua maravilhosa música (e não é puxação, viciei mesmo!) [acho que você fica maluca com minhas gírias, alguma dúvida, é só me perguntar, fica mais fácil pra mim], ela me provoca exatamente esse tipo de sensação. Não sei se devo considerá-la New Age, Ambient Music ou qualquer coisa do gênero. Tem um pouco de tudo. Claro que cada música sua tem mais de um aspecto que outra. O que deixa tudo muito especial.
Digo-te isso agora porque agora estou mais atenta a sua música. Não que eu não estivesse antes. É que eu demoro um pouco para entender o significado das músicas.
Posso ser sincera? NUNCA ouvi uma música New Age de 30 minutos. Músicas longas assim encontrei no Rock Progressivo, que é bem diferente… Sua música é New Age porque ela é diferente de tudo que já foi tocado até hoje. É Ambient Music porque ela harmoniza lugares e situações. E por aí vai.
Na verdade, eu deveria estar assinando o feed do seu blog. Na época em que eu assinei, eu boiei. Agora estou com preguiça de traduzir o e-mail. Espero que tenha entendido minhas palavras. Às vezes não lhe mando e-mail ou um tweet por pura timidez, sabe?
B’Jour Marcome. Hope you and the M’Soir had a GREAT vacation ! An interesting blog post. From the perspective of a truck driver, music for me relates to memories AND geography. For example: While driving in Northern Ontario, I have memories of listening to Clannad, which is where I first listened to them in my truck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD6c-spsULM Clannad’s lead singer is Moya Brennan (Máire Ní Bhraonáin) who you may know is Enya’s sister. Anyway, for some reason, I’ve always associated driving in Up-State New York with Pink Floyd. ( ??? ). And what have I been listening to recently in Quebec …. ??? Hhmm. Haha. Sorry. Truck driver humor. Truthfully, I’ve been associating Marcome with the 6 hour strech of Highway 20 from Montreal to the Gaspe.
